Anakeesta Gatlinburg Tour 2026
The day begins in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, a lively mountain town surrounded by the natural beauty of the Smoky Mountains. The plan for the day is simple: head to Anakeesta, explore the park, check out the newest attractions, and experience the rides and scenic viewpoints that make this mountaintop destination so popular.
Visiting Anakeesta usually follows a straightforward process. First, guests arrive at the entrance plaza in downtown Gatlinburg where tickets are purchased and transportation to the mountaintop is arranged. Once visitors reach the top of the mountain, they can explore gardens, observation towers, adventure attractions, restaurants, and scenic walking areas.
The goal of this visit is to explore the entire park step by step, observing what is currently open, what is under construction, and what visitors can expect when planning a trip to Anakeesta.
Entrance Area, Parking & Construction
Upon arriving at Anakeesta, the first area visitors encounter is the entrance plaza. This is where guests gather before heading up the mountain, and it serves as the starting point for the entire experience.

During this visit, it was noticeable that a section of the parking lot was closed due to ongoing construction work. The park is currently undergoing improvements and expansions, which means some areas are still being developed.
One of the first places visible near the entrance is the Great Outdoors Store, where visitors can find souvenirs and merchandise related to Anakeesta and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Many travelers enjoy browsing through items such as shirts, mugs, and other keepsakes that celebrate the mountain experience.
While walking through the plaza area, another major development becomes clear: a new chairlift system is being constructed.
New Crystal Express Chairlift Project

One of the biggest upcoming additions to Anakeesta is the Crystal Express Chairlift.
Once completed, this new chairlift will allow visitors to travel from the entrance plaza to the mountaintop much faster than before. Instead of longer travel times, the ride is expected to take around four minutes from bottom to top.
This improvement will significantly enhance the visitor experience by providing quicker transportation up and down the mountain. During the visit, construction crews were actively working on the new system, and the large support towers and structures were already visible.
The Crystal Express will function as a gondola-style lift system, making the journey smoother and faster for guests. Although an exact opening date was not confirmed, it is expected that the chairlift may open sometime around late spring, possibly in May.
When the Crystal Express becomes operational, it will likely transform the way visitors access the park.
Ticket System & Safety Information

Another noticeable change at the entrance plaza is the addition of self-service ticket kiosks.
These kiosks help reduce wait times, especially during busy seasons when large crowds visit Anakeesta. Instead of waiting in long lines at the ticket counter, guests can quickly purchase or retrieve their tickets using the automated kiosks.
Safety information for the upcoming Crystal Express ride was also displayed. Visitors were informed that those who are uncomfortable with heights might prefer using an alternative method to reach the top.
Fortunately, Anakeesta offers another transportation option for guests who prefer a more grounded ride.
Ridge Rambler Ride to the Top

Since the Crystal Express chairlift was not yet open during this visit, the main way to reach the top of the mountain was the Ridge Rambler.
The Ridge Rambler is a shuttle-style vehicle that drives visitors up the mountain along a scenic road. As the ride begins, the busy streets of Gatlinburg gradually fade away, replaced by forest views and mountain landscapes.
During the journey, passengers can enjoy glimpses of the surrounding Smoky Mountains. The winding road passes through wooded areas, offering a relaxing and scenic ride.
Wildlife activity is also possible in this region. The Smoky Mountains are known for their population of black bears, and while sightings are not guaranteed, some visitors occasionally see wildlife during early morning or evening trips.
The Ridge Rambler route also passes near the Astral Lumina attraction, a nighttime walking experience that features illuminated installations and light displays.
The ride to the top typically takes about nine to ten minutes, making it a comfortable and scenic way to reach the mountaintop village.
First Impressions from the Top of Anakeesta

After arriving at the top, the atmosphere feels very different from the busy streets below. The mountaintop area has the appearance of a small village surrounded by mountains and forests.
Visitors are welcomed by open plazas, scenic viewpoints, restaurants, and a variety of attractions. From this elevation, the views of the Smoky Mountains are impressive, especially on clear days.
Some areas were still closed due to construction during the visit, as Anakeesta continues expanding and improving different sections of the park.
Food, Restaurants & Shopping Options

One of the first things visitors notice at the top of Anakeesta is the variety of food options available.
A popular dining location is Clifftop Restaurant, which is known not only for its menu but also for its incredible mountain views. Dining here allows guests to enjoy their meal while overlooking the surrounding Smoky Mountains. The restaurant serves items such as burgers, wings, and other casual dining favorites.
Nearby is the Tap House, where guests can enjoy beverages while relaxing in the scenic mountaintop environment.

Another option is the Pretzel House, where large pretzels and bratwurst are served.
For lighter snacks and coffee, visitors can stop by Cloud9 Bakery, which offers coffee, cookies, and sandwiches. Many guests like to sit in the rocking chairs nearby and simply enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere.
In addition to food, there are also shops where visitors can purchase souvenirs and themed merchandise.
Attractions: Treetop Skywalk & New Expansion

One of the most unique attractions at Anakeesta is the Treetop Skywalk.
This experience allows visitors to walk along a series of suspended bridges built high among the trees. Walking along these bridges provides a unique perspective of the forest below.
During this visit, parts of the Skywalk were undergoing expansion work. New viewing areas are being added, which will allow guests to enjoy even better views of Gatlinburg and the surrounding mountains.
Future improvements also include a special synchronous fireflies light show that will add another immersive experience to this area.
Vista Gardens, Bakery & Anavista Tower View

Another peaceful area within Anakeesta is Vista Gardens.
This garden space features colorful flowers, decorative landscaping, and walking paths that allow visitors to explore the area at a relaxed pace. As spring approaches, more flowers begin to bloom, making the gardens even more vibrant.
Nearby is Cloud9 Bakery, which offers coffee and snacks for visitors who want to take a break while enjoying the mountain scenery.

From this area, guests can walk up to Anavista Tower, the highest viewpoint in Anakeesta.
At the top of the tower, visitors are rewarded with panoramic views of the Smoky Mountains and the surrounding region. A glass floor section allows guests to look directly down toward the gardens below.
A new camera system has also been installed here. Visitors can activate the camera using their phone and capture photos from one of the highest viewpoints in Gatlinburg.
Adventure Activities & Kids Areas
Anakeesta is not only about scenic views—it also offers plenty of adventure activities.
One popular photo location is the Heart Twigloo, a charming spot where many visitors stop to take memorable photos.

Another attraction is the Treeventure climbing area, where guests can explore wooden climbing structures and rope elements designed for fun and adventure.

One of the most exciting rides in the park is the Hellbender Mountain Coaster. This ride sends guests down a winding mountain track with twists, turns, and thrilling speeds.
The experience combines adventure with scenic mountain views, making it a favorite for many visitors. The park also includes the Fur Trader Store, where guests can purchase souvenirs and Smoky Mountains themed items. For food options in this area, there is also the Rocky Top Taco food truck, serving tacos and other quick meals.
Families traveling with children can visit the BirdVenture playground, which includes slides, climbing areas, and treehouse-style play structures designed for younger guests.
Return Trip & Gatlinburg Village Visit
The ride down the mountain takes about ten minutes and provides another chance to enjoy the scenic forest views along the road. After leaving Anakeesta, a visit to the nearby Gatlinburg Village adds a pleasant ending to the day.
The village area features charming shops and small restaurants. One popular stop is the Donut Fryer, known for its freshly made donuts. Many visitors enjoy stopping here before heading home to grab a sweet treat.
