Amazing Dinosaur Chalk Art at The Island in Pigeon Forge
Dinosaur with a Gun and a Bag of Money

This year’s Chalkfest at The Island in Pigeon Forge was amazing. As I was walking toward Paulyine’s Family Kitchen, my eyes caught a hilarious picture—a dinosaur standing with a gun and a bag of money. It was actually a funny nod to the Alcatraz East Museum. The mix of humor and creativity felt absolutely perfect.
Dinosaur Theme for the Chalk Art

This year’s Chalkfest theme was dinosaurs. All around, it felt like a Jurassic Adventure! Each square had a different dinosaur—some breathing fire, some climbing mountains, and some smiling sweetly like children. The entire area was filled with color and lively images.
Dinosaur in the Snow

A small child had drawn a dinosaur in the snow—it was truly heartwarming. Made with blue and white colors, the simple image was so beautiful that many people stopped to look.
Dinosaur Riding a Mountain Coaster

In another amazing picture, a dinosaur was riding a mountain—almost as if it was enjoying the Lost Mine Mountain Coaster itself! Seeing such a funny idea made me smile.
The Volcano

In one square, a volcano erupting with fire was drawn. Made in red and orange colors, the volcano seemed alive. Next to it, a dinosaur was looking on—hard to tell if it was scared or amazed.
The Island

Another artist had drawn the entire Island in chalk. The fountain, the wheel, the shops—everything was captured within a single square. I watched people around stopping to take pictures.
Jurassic Park

Many were inspired by the Jurassic Park movie at this Chalkfest. Some drew the classic gate, while others replaced “Jurassic Park” with “The Island.” The feeling of that old movie adventure could be felt right on the streets.
Power Rangers

In one square, Power Rangers were seen with a dinosaur! Bright colors, childlike energy—kids stopped to take pictures, laughing.
Original Jurassic Park

It reminded me of the Original Jurassic Park movie, which I had watched in theaters as a young person. Some of the artworks reflected scenes from that movie—the mosquito extracting DNA, the raptor, and the stunning dinosaur eye illustrations.
Jamie Hower’s Work

Jamie Hower, known for pumpkin carving at Dollywood, was also working at Chalkfest. His dinosaur-themed artwork was amazing. Later, he won the People’s Choice Award. I saw it up close—the color work, shading, and perfect texture were all incredible.
Eye of a Dinosaur

In one picture, inside the dinosaur’s eye, small scenes could be seen—an asteroid falling, the dinosaur’s shadow. Seeing such intricate work, I couldn’t help but be amazed.
The Island with a Wheel

In another square, “The Island” was written along with a large wheel. It was clearly made out of love for The Island. For regular visitors, it was familiar yet a symbol of pride.
Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride

One image depicted a scene from the Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride. Above it was written “Out of Order”! Everyone laughed at this funny addition. It was a humorous nod to the local ride culture.
kaylee’s Art

An artist named kaylee had drawn a scene with a small telescope and a raptor—it gave the full Jurassic Park feeling. I was impressed by the delicacy of her work.
Lori’s Art

Lori, a cancer survivor, created an inspirational piece—
“The Dino Squad is Roaring for a Cure.”
This phrase was not just color—it became a symbol of courage. Many stopped in front of this artwork.
It’s My Party

In another square, it read, “It’s My Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To Dinosaur”—a funny, lighthearted piece. Chalkfest’s humorous side was captured in this work.
Old Smoky

Old Smoky’s team had drawn a great line—
“Dinosaurs didn’t drink, and you know what happened to them.”
Everyone laughed. The mixture of chalk and light humor warmed up the entire environment.
Classic Movie from Disney

One artist drew a scene from a classic Disney dinosaur movie. Volcanoes, dinosaurs, and colorful backgrounds stopped the children in their tracks. The warmth of the old movie returned.
Two Dinosaurs

Two dinosaurs with Hello Kitty in the middle—such a sweet combination was completely unexpected. The childlike joy of Chalkfest was reflected in this piece.
Unicomosaurus Rex

One of the cutest works was Unicomosaurus Rex—a unicorn-dinosaur. Made in bright colors with a touch of fantasy, both children and adults stopped to take pictures.
Triceratops

Camila drew Terry the Triceratops—bright, colorful, and beautifully shaded. Small but perfect and lively.
Tail Coming Off the Square

Finally, I saw a piece where the dinosaur’s tail came out of the square. I had never seen such a 3D effect before. I laughed—it became my favorite work.
Aubrey Mullen
In the Middle School Category, Aubrey Mullen took first place. Everyone applauded when the work was announced.
Abby Floyd

My daughter Abby Floyd won first place in the High School Category. I stood by her, filled with joy. Her effort, use of color—everything was perfect. Abby received a certificate, a $25 Mellow Mushroom gift card, and tickets to SkyFly and Lost Mine Mountain Coaster.
Bren Hall

The first prize in the Adult Category went to Bren Hall. Everyone was impressed by her work.
Sonia Summers

The Overall Winner was Sonia Summers. Her work was displayed on stage, and everyone applauded in congratulations.

The People’s Choice Award went to Jamie Christian Hower. Her work was so popular that everyone guessed it would win even before her name was announced—“This is hers for sure!”
Family-Friendly Events in Pigeon Forge
The Dinosaur Chalk Art Pigeon Forge festival wasn’t just about art; it was about families spending time together. I spent the day cheering for Abby, occasionally checking the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game on my phone. Families wandered around, kids laughed, and the crisp fall air carried the scent of the season.
Local food favorites like Timberwood Grill and Funnel Cake Junction Food Truck were packed with people. Children stopped to watch the drawings while parents snapped pictures. Without a doubt, Chalkfest at The Island has become one of the most loved family events in Pigeon Forge.
Pigeon Forge Art Competitions and Winners
As the day moved toward evening, the judges began preparing to announce the winners of the Pigeon Forge art competition. Around six o’clock, everyone gathered in front of the stage, buzzing with excitement.
The announcements began—
- Middle School: Aubrey Mullen
- High School: Abby Floyd (my daughter)
- Adult Category: Bren Hall
- Overall Winner: Sonia Summers
- People’s Choice Award: Jamie Hower – Dollywood’s pumpkin carving artist
Abby’s win was the happiest moment of the day for me. She received a certificate, a $25 Mellow Mushroom gift card, and tickets to SkyFly Soar America and Lost Mine Mountain Coaster.
I felt even prouder because Abby had previously won first place in another art contest. Her artwork showed a pregnant woman looking into a mirror, and in the reflection appeared her unborn child. The organizers displayed that piece at the Anderson County Fair, where it won First Place that year. Hearing that news made me even prouder.
Abby Floyd
My daughter Abby Floyd won first place in the High School Category at this year’s Chalkfest. I spent the whole day by her side, watching how focused she was while drawing. When the judges announced her name, that moment became one of the best feelings of my life. Abby received a certificate, a $25 Mellow Mushroom gift card, and tickets to SkyFly Soar America and Lost Mine Mountain Coaster.
I am truly proud of her, because this is not Abby’s first win. A few days ago, she had won first place in another art competition.

In that competition, the picture she drew was unique — a pregnant woman looking into a mirror, and in the reflection of the mirror, her newborn child could be seen.

With Abby’s permission, the organizers took her artwork to the Anderson County Fair and included it in their exhibition. They said that even though they have arranged the same exhibition for many years, this year, after including Abby’s picture, their exhibition won the First Place Award at the fair.
When that announcement was made, I could tell from her smile — hard work, talent, and heartfelt emotion together bring such results. I am as proud of Abby as I am grateful, because a daughter like her is a blessing in my life.
